Did You Marry Your Father?

I was watching Oprah's network today and famous relationship expert, Iyanla Van Zant's show..."Fix Your Life." She was helping a family with their group therapy. She told a young, engaged woman, "you know you always marry your father. Or someone who you want your father to be like." I don't agree with the concept of ALWAYS marrying your father. I know I didn't marry my dad and never wanted my Dad to be like the guy I married! So, her theory does not match up to my ancient married situation. I guess I am writing about this just to start up a conversation. Now that most of the people I know who are married are uh- hem, OLDER, I'm curious to see what my women friends have learned about their husbands and how much alike they are with regards to their fathers who would be in their older years. Let's discuss!

  1. I Did Not Marry My Father....My husband, your father is NOTHING LIKE my father. I've always heard that you either marry your father or the opposite of your father. I married the opposite and it's still going well after 55 years. Of course I loved my father but... Love you! Mom

  2. I married the opposite of my dad also! Her theory isn't working too good as far as I can see! Maybe for some?
