Her Story
I have spent two nights with my new nurse Florence. Last night was the second night and she asked me about my physical condition and thought I had been in an accident. As I gave her more of the short version of my story, I realized how emotional I can still get after all of these years! Then I asked about her story. She is a 43 year old woman who was born and raised in Liberia. Several brothers and sisters, and grew up under many mothers. Her biological mother is 90 and her father is deceased. Her mother will come to USA for a visit very soon. She comes once a year. Florence came to US with a man whom she married about 10 years ago. She has a 25 year old son from a 1st relationship. She lives with her husband in a condo. in Coon Rapids. She is very unhappy with her husband as he drinks all of the time. He is quite mean to her, ignores her and seems like a pitiful soul. This is why she works so much. She is a nurse at Hennepin County Medical Center and a floater for Accurate Homecare. She wants to settle in with one client, so I feel very fortunate that I am the one. She made a shocking statement when she told me that she wished her husband would actually hit her, so she could call 911. She wants to get away from him, but doesn't know how. She is very religious and attends a Lutheran church in Coon Rapids. She is a tough cookie, but I can see the pain in her eyes. I related to her how wonderful FREEDOM is! It's another example of how everyone has a story that makes one appreciate what they have and how they live! Thankful for the blessings in my life.
