Witness

Yesterday, I was buzzing around my favorite thrift/type store and witnessed a shoplift. There was a short woman who was holding a large, black duffle type bag and a skateboard. She was hiding behind an aisle of blue jeans and peering towards the checkout lanes. I could just tell she was waiting to make a run for it. Sure enough, off she went looking down and zooming out the door at a fast paced walk. It just struck me. I don't usually see that look of desperation coming from a fellow shopper. I asked the check out clerk about security cameras and she said they have "hundreds" of them. This was puzzling to me, but I didn't waste too much time thinking about it. She also said, "oh, it was probably one of our regulars." SO, they have hundreds of cameras and then the statement about the regular shoplifters? Perplexed. Just going to let it go.
