It Is Scary Cold Now

Not a surprise, it's another frigid weather day here in Minnesota. And yet again, schools have been cancelled for tomorrow. The joke seems to be that schools will be open until July to make up for the cancelled days so far this season. At my family gathering today, this was quite the hot topic. ( hot topic, sorry) It seemed that the consensus was that schools should not be closed. Of course I usually pick the side of the underdog. Most of the gang seemed to be upset that schools were closed. I was trying to make the point that there happen to be many irresponsible parents out there who leave for work and then leave the kids behind to get themselves off to school. And hey, if this is the routine, fine. Hopefully, parents make sure their kids are safe. It's when the kids don't know the back-up plan, like when there is extremely dangerous freeze to death in 5 minutes cold. Kids sometimes are not able to realize this themselves and may go outside and wait for a bus for a long time before they even get that it's too cold out. Or they are walkers, or have to hike to a city bus stop. Tonight I watched out my window as a car hit a snow bank and then sat there waiting for help. There were so many cars that slowed down to offer help and then this caused a hazard. It was kind of scary to watch this as many cars wound around it and hard to even see them in the blowing, blinding snow. I'm glad there wasn't a pile up and the pedestrians that were running around weren't hit! Scary cold.

  1. Good Blog! I however, are on the side of parents making the decision of whether to drive them to school or have them stay home or with a sitter. How about tomorrrow when it is supposed to be even colder wind chill. Are the schools going to be closed once again? We'll see. Until then stay inside and safe! Love you! Mom
