Not A Post About My Nurses!
I'm sure I could write volumes, but choose to focus on the awesome things that happened this week! First, I got to spend time with both of my young, mentees. First Ella. The precocious 1st grader who has such a fun and playful spirit. She was trying to teach me a game that I was not familiar with. I was not really paying attention to the game, when she said, "you're my best friend." Very sweet and it made me feel so important. That afternoon, I scooped up her bigger sister and we visited good, ole Mickey D's. She informed me that she had joined after school gymnastics! All of last year, I knew that she was fearful of going to the middle school and repeatedly told her to ask a teacher about joining some activities. She would always have an answer, like "my Mom doesn't want me to." I was so happy to hear that she and 2 other friends signed up together and her mother signed for permission and the activity fee was taken care of as I knew it would be and off she goes! Experiencing new things and making new friends and getting right in there. Real progress for her. Then an update on my 90 year old neighbor Herb. We stopped up to see him and his wife with a little treat from the Bazaar and he promptly opened the door with a surprised look on his face, but he right away said that he was doing very well! usually, it is a poor status update about all of his ailments. But he proudly said that he had put on 2 pounds! He looked bright eyed and ready to roll! So, good for him. Good to have happy things to report!
