Back In The Day

Last night was one of my bad nights where I could not turn my mind off and finally gave up and turned on the TV. I found a channel that my family has been talking about. They play all kinds of memorable entertainment..thus, it is called ME network. While watching a couple of the old shows, I realized that unmarried men with kids always had the "help." These Dads were usually widowers I think. D-I-V-O-R-C-E was not ever mentioned. They all seemed to have really professional jobs that would pay quite well so that the family could provide a living for the housekeeper/Nanny. Most times, the "help" lived right with the family in these shows. Let's see, there was the butler Mr. French in Family Affair. There was Uncle Charlie in My 3 Sons, there was Alice who was with Mr. Brady when he met Mom Carol Brady, there was The Courtship of Eddie's Father and I think the little asian nanny was Mrs. Livingston. I'm positive there are many more, but you get the idea. I don't know. How do men do it these days if they don't have live in Nannies and housekeepers? You got it. I think Grandmas carry a lot of the responsibilities.  Or the older children do the latch key kid thing. I just thought it was interesting how Dads were portrayed in the shows of the 60's and 70's.
