Current Events

Well today, started out as any normal day would...nice and quiet and then builds into a crescendo when everything seems to happen at once. Doggy drop off, haircut for the son, car wash...all of it not really important, but important...I know you know what I mean. Any errand has the potential to be mundane, yet necessary. For me, It becomes more of an art, the more people you're working with to accomplish the task. I am sooo lucky to have help whom I can ask to step it up. Some can handle the errand journey, some not. I learn rather quickly who I can ask and when and how often, for that matter. Somehow, it all works. I make it work.

So, the current event heading of the blog, pertains to my son's homework. He needed to choose a current event to summarize etc. for the day. I recommended "go to msn.com and check out the headline stories." He did, and came across a plane crash in Iran that I didn't even know about. Here is yet one more instance that reminds me of how important the internet and its news capabilities are to us, and the entire world. I always seem to wonder how different my own education would have been if I would have had access to the world and all of its news at my fingertips. In my college days, we had to undergo training to have access to the computers found in the library. If I am remembering correctly, there maybe 10 computers on hand. Today, it seems every family or local libray has immediate access to the computer world. As always, good and bad can occur with this access. I, for one, am so glad that this option is available to the kids/students of today. They are granted permission to pursue all kinds of information and reach outside of their classrooms a bit. The usual assignment can be accomplished so much quicker. One of my thesis papers that I did back in 1985, found me at an electric typewriter for gosh sakes at a card table. The entire set-up was off limmits to my 2 other roommates for at least 2 weeks!. As with everything however, all in moderation. I know, easier said than done. It's hard to offer teenage kids the greatness of the computer and world wide web and then tell them to monitor it on their own. Life goes on.

The weather update for here in Minnesota is currently one of calm. Today, it felt like a calm winters day. Cool, crisp, fresh, NO WIND and beautiful. True, it was probably only 15 degrees or so, but I like to imagine that I was cruising around the cold, yet glamorous city of Aspen. The ski resort where you can get a tan while shooshing around the downhill and cross-country ski runs. Plenty of sunshine. Delightful. Apr^es ski, even better. Ok, will talk soon. take care.
