Last night, I happened to catch the Diane Sawyer interview with Mark Kelly...he is Gabrielle Gifford's husband. It was so moving for me to watch because he seems to be the most sincere, loving, caring man. The press is now referring to them as The Congresswoman and the Astronaut(which is what they are), but this has a ring to it like the Princess and the Frog, or The Beauty and the Beast. Unlike these stories, The Gabrielle and Mark story is so real. She is reaching out to him now, still not speaking and he is there keeping a constant vigil at her bedside. He is always talking to her calmly and explaining things to her and telling her where she is. I just really find this story so moving. He is not focused on the tragedy of the situation and everything surrounding it, he is just there for her. Keeping her feeling loved and secure and peaceful.
Probably needless to say, I had a good cry and really appreciated Mark Kelly doing the the interview so we could get a glimpse into their status at the moment and really empathize with them. So much respect for both of them. I hope that they can be at their home together soon and establish some type of normalcy for the both of them and their family.
