Yesterday was a great day for me. I got out there...twice. My 1st stop was to Blue Heron Elementary and the 3rd class of Kris Conroy. I have known her for many years now and I always enjoy it so much. We always start out with me telling an abbreviated form of "my story." When I tell the story, I realize just how long ago most of my little traumas occurred and that I am really here among the land of the living! As I finished the story, I asked for questions. Many of the usual questions, like how did you fall etc? Yesterday, there happened to be more of them wanting to share their stories of loved ones that have been in their lives. "My grandpa has only one leg." My brother broke his arm." The kids want to share and talk about and relate to me. It feels really sweet. Then, we did some reading groups. It is fun to see kids really excited about their stories and readers. The challenge that I like is trying to remember all of the names. It will take me a couple of more weeks, but off to a good start.
Later in the day, we headed over to my parents' house and picked them up for the show we were going to see at the historic Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul. We zipped right down there in about 20 minutes, parked and picked up our tickets. The ticket office advised an early arrival time so we were about 45 minutes early, but enjoyed just sitting and chatting. My Dad said something like well, we've got some more jaw time. The show started at 730p and we were off. Garrison Keillor is such a great story teller and composer and when he mixes the two talents together, yowsa. He and the St.paul Chamber Orchestra performed for about 2 hours I think. There was a quick intermission in between. Cute too, at the end of the show he said well, no need to walk off stage, we'll do the encore now. The song that I've posted is one of his old regulars. It will get your toes tapping...I tapped mine for the duration of the show. If you ever get the chance to see him, do it. He is a living legend and so full of nostalgia and good memories of the simpler times. Go Garrison.
