Customer Schmervice!

You know, I am just pissed off enough right now, to start up a National Customer Service Awareness Coalition. What ever happened to bending over backwards to help a patron? I know there will be many readers of this story who would probably say(myself included), "in my day, the customer was ALWAYS right." No ifs, no ands, no buts!
So last night, after some chasing around with my nurse, daughter and her friend, we were all starving and chose a modern, little Vietnamese restaurant that I've been to several times before. I'm always prepared for what may happen when being seated, but apparently not this time. The hostess asked us how many and we followed her a short ways and I asked if we could have this booth on the end, I told her my nurse would be in the booth and I would sit next to her in my wheelchair.and the two girls across from us. I thought hey, there are several booths open, why not let everyone be comfortable in a booth? There's something about a booth! I can actually sit next to a booth! Have I said booth enough? Booth, booth, booth! Isn't it the preference of most people? She said in her little, choppy accent, "no,no, you will not be able to sit there, you will block the aisle." 1st of all, I always take this into consideration, I don't want to stick out anymore than I already do. (Mrs. Nice my psychiatrist used to call me)post divorce, 4 years ago or so. Back to the encounter, so then I spotted another booth back in another corner. I would be with my back up to a wall and still next to a booth, no one would have to go around me at all. She just wouldn't have it, going on about how her boss would be angry and it wasn't just my chair, but no wheelchair was ever permitted at the booths. Let me sit with my group where I think it will work out the best! Ugh. She made no effort to make me feel comfortable at all and just kept bobbing and weaving around us like she was tapdancing around the situation, saying she was sorry etc. As it was, our waiter actually kicked the back of my chair anyways. He was a very friendly, caring waiter, but the rest of the place, not so much.
In the big scheme of things, I know this is not the end of the world or anything, but in my world, I don't get to eat out too frequently and especially when it is 10 below and I also don't get to do too many fun things with my daughter. Of course, we still had a lot of fun, but there was the overshadowing cloud of gray hanging over our table. I hate this expression but "elephant in the room," comes to mind. It was  just no use trying to argue or push the situation. I let it roll off my back, and hopefully now, that I have shared with you all, I can fuhget abowt it! (watched the Jersey Shore last nite.) I'm fascinated by their accents.
On the upside, it is going to be the usual frigid, middle of January weather. Very cold, very crisp, and a cozy weekend to start off and then trying to fight off the caged in feeling by sunday evening. Here's to us!
